Finance - Executives Auction nets over $10,000

Great work team, Lunch with Executives was another success!
A grand total of $10,300 winning bids was received. I want to thank everyone who participated, as well as the executives for supporting us.

Putting bid amounts aside, I believe that this event has not only created an opportunity for the family of Orange to give back to the community but also in bringing both the employees and the employers together.

Again, congratulations to the four final winners. Winners will receive a letter in their mailbox (also via e-mail) regarding your lunch plans with the executives.

I also want to let everyone know that the final result of our charity competition will be announced later today. Will it be the Finance, Human Resource, or Marketing Department? Stay tuned to find out who the winner is!

HR- Recap of Silent Auction

Thanks to all who attended the event! It seemed everyone enjoyed the food and drinks at Mangiano's. As a result of the silent auction, we were able to raise $1145.00!!! I believe that with all the funds we raised, we will definitely be in contention for winning it all.

For privacy reasons I do not want to disclose who donated which auction items, but I do want to send a special thank you to all of you who either donated or bid on items. Its amazing that we can all come together for a great cause while still having fun.

I am expecting to have the final tally for votes this evening, so please check the blog tonight for a final update!

Thanks again for all your help and hopefully this can be the start of our continued commitment to helping others here at Orange and in the HR Department.

Best,

Xan Saks

Marvelous Marketing Mixer

We had an incredibly successful mixer! We sold over 200 tickets, raising a total of $4600! The marketing department showed up to the Glendale community center at about 2 PM today to start setting up for the event. We hung up streamers and balloons, put out the food, and had our own small jam session led by Tom and his band. The guests started to arrive at about 5:30 PM. Sally and I got on stage to thank everyone for supporting our cause and for coming out to the event. We ate some delicious food catered by Will's Mom's catering company: Garden Grill Catering Company. George had a hilarious stand up act, and Tom's Band played for the next 2 hours. Everyone really seemed to have a great time, not to mention the great sum of money we were able to put towards the fundraising competition. Thanks again to everyone who came out! Results of the Orange Inc Charity competition should be in tomorrow night, good luck Marketing Team!

Finance - ***Lunch with Executives***

For the past week, our team had joined with the executives in planning this exciting event. As a result, we will be holding our second fund-raising event on Friday, April 16th!

Lunch with Executives -
It is a silent auction where possible of 4 winners will be able to have lunch with an executive of their choice. Four of our great executives have agreed to participate in this charity event, where the employees and the employers will not only help for a good cause but also get a chance to interact with one another.
The specifics regarding the lunch are as follows:
  • The Lunch is to take place within 6 months from the date of auction
  • Date, time, and location of the lunch will be agreed by both the executive and the winner
  • The Lunch will be a one-on-one meeting between the winner and the executive, and is to be at least 45 minutes long
  • The cost of lunch will be paid by the executive
Settings and bid sheets will be placed in conference rooms of each floor, where it is easily accessible. The auction will begin first thing in the morning and last throughout the day, so that everyone gets the chance to participate. Remember, this is a charity event to help our children at GES, as well as your chance at getting to know the executives better.

Marketing Department to hold Benefit this Saturday!

Hello Orange Inc! As I'm sure many of you have heard, Sally had the remarkable idea today to hold a mixer for Orange Inc employees. The mixer is to take place this Saturday, April 17, and tickets are going to cost $50, $80 for a party of 2. We will be posting up fliers around the building. After holding a budgeting meeting during lunch today, we figured out that the mixer will cost us virtually nothing, so all of the money can go straight to the Children's hospital of Southern California (if we win the competition). Our department's intern, Will, gave us the gracious news that his Mom owns a catering company, and would be able to donate all the food, desserts, and drinks to the benefit. Tom volunteered to play with his band for the musical entertainment, and George is going to perform stand up comedy. Who knew we had such talent in our department?! We are going to hold the benefit in the Glendale Community Center Ballroom, also free of charge. We are very excited about this event! Thanks again for the fabulous idea, Sally!

HR- Relay for Life Recap!

Hey all,

I first want to thank everyone for attending the relay for life walk this past weekend. It was a great success! I would especially like to thank Karen for providing lunch for everyone that attended. I am excited to announce that through sponsors we were able to raise $3,245.00!!!!!! This total was much higher than I would have ever expected and I know we would not have been able to do it without all your support. Here is a quick recap of the event:

-We had 24 members of HR present at the event
-We walked around a local track stadium with not only members of our team but other members of the community
-Many of the people at the event were either cancer survivors or had family/ friends that have had cancer
- Keith's wife Nancy was at the event with us to do the walk. She wrote me an email this morning that she wanted me to share with the rest of the department:

"Dear Xan and other members of the HR department at Orange,

I don't know how to express my appreciation to all of you for supporting the American Cancer Society. You are not only fund-raising for an amazing charity, but seeing you all at the event showed my family and I the support you all had for Keith. He would be proud and it brought tears to my eyes. Your love makes it much easier for me to keep Keith's memory alive. I wish you the best of luck as you continue to find creative ways to fund-raise, and please feel free to use me as a resource if necessary.

Sincerely yours,

Nancy Handleman"

*The photo above features Nancy Handleman, Karen Anderson, and Kelly Markowitz (L to R) at the event

Keep up the great team effort and keep in mind we will be having one more event this weekend. TBA

Marketing Car Wash a Success!

The Marketing Department is off to a great start! This past weekend we had our car wash, through Betty's husband's local car wash company. We split up into three groups, to learn about how to perform our respective parts. Group 1 (Sally and Tom) was in charge of checking in customers. Group 2, which consisted of the majority of the department, learned how to manually wash the cars. Group 3 (Brian, Carla, and Yin) were taught how to dry the cars off. Not only were we able to raise $500 in the 5 hours of work, but we had the time of our lives splashing around and acting like kids again. We are really looking forward to seeing how the rest of the competition turns out!

Keep up the good work team!

Car Wash this Saturday to raise money for Children's Hospital of Southern California

Great meeting on Monday team! We were all very productive, and everyone brought a ton of clever ideas to the table. After a long, thoughtful discussion during our department’s weekly lunch meeting, our department decided that the charity we would like to represent is the Children’s Hospital of Southern California. We also came up with the idea for a fantastic fundraising event, a car wash to be held at the Turtle Car Wash on the corner of Figueroa and Exposition this coming Saturday from noon until 5 PM. Betty’s husband owns the car wash facility, and is thrilled to partner with our company on this exciting promotional opportunity for his local car wash. We even had fliers printed out yesterday, and are going to distribute them around the neighborhood tonight. A special thanks to Daniel in graphic designing for the flyers he created - without his help we wouldn't have been able to get the word out nearly as quickly! Hope to see you all out at the Car Wash this Saturday, Orange Inc!

Finance - Pick & Choose

Good Morning, Orange fellows! This is Emily Ki from the Finance Department.
As you are already aware, our department has officially joined the Marketing and Human Resource Departments in competing to raise the most amount of money for a good cause.

This means the FD family must put our heads and hearts together to support our charity.
Now the question is, to
whom will our donation be made to?

Our fellows Kevin Elrick, J.D., and I have discussed and were able to narrow down to two charities -- Haiti Relief and Glendale Elementary School. From the two, we need your help in picking our final charity!

Haiti Relief:
Haiti was recently struck with a catastrophic 7.0M earthquake. If anyone knows about earthquakes, we Californians are very familiar especially after the 1994 Northridge earthquake tragedy. Citizens of Haiti are in desperate need of financial aid for food, clothes, and medicine. It would be very helpful if the family of Orange Inc. can contribute, even a small portion, in hopes of saving lives.

Glendale Elementary:
Our recent research shows Glendale Elementary School (GES) with the highest number of Orange employees' freinds and families attending the institution. As it is for most schools, GES is also in need for financial hlep to porvide our children with school supplies. With 37% of our employees' children currently receiving education at GES, our kind donaiton would be useful in improving their education envirnment.

Please take your part and feel free to e-mail eki@orange.com or simply leave a comment in the box below, stating which charity you would like the FD family to support.

HR-Charity of Choice

Dear Fellow Human Resource Associates:

Hopefully, by now, you know that we are in a competition with the Marketing and Finance Departments to raise the most amount of money for the charity of our choice. Before we can get starting on the actual fund-raising process we have to select a charity to represent.

As you all know, Keith Handleman, our Senior Vice President of Client Affairs, passed away last month after a long battle with Colon Cancer. Almost everyone who knew Keith, knew he was not only a great friend, father, and husband, but he was a tireless worker who dedicated his life to our company. In his honor, I propose that we choose to sponsor the American Cancer Society. This is not only a great organization helping to save thousands of lives around America, but also a great way to show respect to Keith and his family for the love and support he showed us over his lifetime.

Here is a little background on the American Cancer Society (ACS):

ACS was founded in 1913 with the mission of eliminating and finding new ways to treat cancer. Through education, research, and community outreach, ACS is a one of the most well-known and well-respected organizations dedicated to addressing the cancer epidemic.

For more information please visit www.cancer.org

I hope all of us in Human Resources can join together and put our time and energy into winning this competition, not only for this great organization, but for Keith. Stay tuned for updates about our fund-raising events and please let me know if you have any questions and or ideas.

Charity Fund-raising competition!

Attention all Orange departments... Human Resources is organizing a company wide competition to see which department can raise the most funds for the charity of your choice. Over the next two weeks, we challenge all our employees to team up with their department, choose a charity, and find creative, fun, and exciting ways to raise funds. Our goal for the next three weeks is to raise a combined total of $15,000.00, and the department with the most funds raised will get to give the combined total of funds to their chosen charity.

Please update your department and the rest of the company by posting blogs on your progress... every week we will update you with a "total funds raised bar". Good luck!
